How to Stay Motivated in Business 100% of the Time

All my life I’ve been fascinated by human motivation.   What causes you and I to behave certain ways?

And why are some small business owners more successful than others?

There are a number of things that might motivate you.  Business motivation strategies vary from individual business owner to business owner.  All of us have something inside ourselves that makes us tick.

While one person may be motivated by external factors like having a great staff pick up on slack another might be motivated by reaching quarterly goals (internal factors).  In either case, one thing is certain, the greatest motivation that you can tap into to succeed with your online marketing and overall marketing strategy comes from the inside.

When you’re motivated from the inside out you stay motivated 100% of the time.

Intrinsic Motivation: The Ultimate form of Business Motivation

Intrinsic motivation is the kind of motivation that you get from deep in your soul.  In actuality it is inspiration.  When you are inspired you are responding to an internal call to fulfill who you truly are at your core.

Unfortunately many small business owners don’t tap into this most powerful form of self-motivation.  Some small business owners get so wrapped up in conducting business, hitting someone elses’ goals, and inadvertently neglect their calling.

I recently stumbled across a video that describes this concept courtesy of Life Direction coach, Steve Martile.  Steve goes as far as saying that we don’t even need motivation, as most of us want to find  external motivation (extrinsic motivation) and disregard the calling on the inside.

A type of extrinsic motivation is money and fear.   When you are self motivated however, you are pulling motivation from the areas of yourself that …

According to Wikipedia those with Intrinsic motivation:

  • “attribute their educational results to internal factors that they can control (e.g. the amount of effort they put in),
  • believe they can be effective agents in reaching desired goals (i.e. the results are not determined by luck),
  • are interested in mastering a topic, rather than just rote-learning to achieve good grades.”

These points in other words, tell us that if you:

1) Believe you control the outcome of your actions (and marketing)

2) Believe you can reach your goals (marketing goals)

3) Are a person who is passionate about mastering an area (your marketing)

You will have strong motivation to move forward with your marketing strategy.

Are you internally motivated in your small business?

Are you unsure about your marketing strategy?  Ask yourself the above questions and decide to ditch your plan or proceed with a marketing plan that brings more of who you are into the equation.  When you do, you’ll see success faster than you know it.

P.S.

What if you don’t pass the intrinsic motivation test above?   How do we build intrinsic motivation to stay motivated in business??

Speak your mind.
