Let’s face it. We all get into slumps. If you’re feeling small business recession is affecting you, chances are you’re looking for some motivation to get out of that place. Good thing we have Motivation Mondays here at Secrets to Web Success
.
So what do you do to get yourself out of a small business slump?
Well, first, let’s mention that signs of business recession can often be driven times by ineffective marketing.
Perhaps you’re not getting enough customers and that is affecting your bottom line.
Whatever the case may be. The first thing a small business owner must do is realize that all “slumps” or recessions are are opportunities to learn and grow. All challenges are growth experiences and opportunities in disguise.
Whenever you make a mistake, you learn from it and that experience helps you restrategize and take a new direction in your marketing.
So, instead of focusing on the fact that you’re not doing so well, stop and take a look at the situation in a broader perspective.
Instead of focusing on what you are doing “wrong,” focus on I how you can IMPROVE upon your small business marketing strategy.
If you are still using traditional (or old) media to market your business, chances are you don’t see enough return on investment. Unfortunately, traditional media has lost its effectiveness in grabbing and keeping the attention of customers (forget about even encouraging folks to take action). 99% of the time, the results are immeasurable. To add insult to injury, old media is costly for most small business owners.
For recent statistics on the decline of traditional media in its influence of buyers see an article from Mashable speaking of Old Media’s Decline and New Media’s Ascent.
This article demonstrates the importance of having new media platforms (such as blogging and social networking) as marketing tools to grow your business online.
Tweaks in Your Small Business Internet Marketing Strategy:
If you already have an online presence (i.e. website, blog) chances are you may not be reaching your target audience and may have to reassess the keywords you are using.  If so, you will need to conduct some thorough keyword research to ensure you are getting found ion the search engines (a great competitive keyword research tool is Market Samurai).
If you are getting significant search engine traffic, chances are you might be missing the boat on social networking and will have to integrate some social networking platforms in your blogging efforts.
The simplest, and most popular ones, are Facebook and Twitter (and we do have “Facebook Friday” and “Twitter Tuesday” blog columns here to help you make sense of that.Â
I ‘ve found that many of my commentors come from Twitter because I’ve developed a nice following there.
If you do have social networking buddies visiting, chances are your blog may need some plugins to facilitate more comments and engage visitors in more activity. We’ll have more on Plugins soon!
Whatever you small business slump may be, realize that slumps are temporary, inevitable, but more importantly…
small business recession times allow you to reassess and learn from your mistakes and start fresh.
They are necessary moments of clarity for you and your small business.
So don’t wallow in the slumps. And when they do happen, make sure to rethink your situation/marketing and ask yourself:
“How you can I move forward, learn and GROW?”

Great article, before I thought that people just new all the answers and that was it but now that I embarked on something I want to achieve, there is so much to learn that it excites me.
I mean when i used blogspot, i switched my blog theme probably 10 times within a 1 or 2 month period.
Great quote though:
“How you can I move forward, learn and GROW?â€
