Hello, friend. Are you ready for your Monday dose of small business motivation?
I’m glad you are!
Have you ever sat down and wondered why you aren’t as “successful” as you’d like to be? I know I have. It’s human. We all strive for growth.
Since 2003 or so I’ve been a student of personal, small business, and entrepreneurial success. Over the years, I’ve come to the conclusion that business growth and personal growth are one and the same. The more you expand your personal thought processes, the more you’ll grow in business. Today we’ll focus one aspect of growth and business success.
Small Business Motivation Technique – Expecting SUCCESS!
In this life, we don’t always get what we want. We don’t always get what we need. We don’t always get what we deserve. And we don’t always even get what we earn. But we will, inevitably and unerringly, get exactly what we expect.
- Jim Stovall, Author of “Ultimate Productivity”
We all have expectations. We have expectations of ourselves, our businesses, our business partners, our spouses, children etc. Sometimes they are good expectations sometimes we expect not so good things from each.
When it comes to your small business, you must learn to expect success. Granted, that can be challenging because we all hate to “fail.” Yet we all know failure is inevitable. It’s a part of life.
If you understand that in every failure lies a seed of success and growth, then you’re one step ahead of those who usually expect things to go wrongly.
Expecting success might sound easier said than done. It’s a challenge to always expect success because from infancy we’ve been programmed to believe we can’t achieve big goals.
How do I Train Myself to Expect Success? What Small Business Motivation Techniques do you recommend, Dali?
I know that question was in the back of your mind, so I’ll show you exactly how to start training your mind to expect results.
One way to combat the negativity that surrounds us, and that often invades our own thoughts, is associating with success-minded business owners.
You can do this via online social networking as well as offline networking. Surround yourself amongst others who have high expectations of success and of themselves.
A specific way to go about doing this is connecting with others in your online circles. You can easily start a mastermind group and have a group of of 5-6 committed and driven small business owners you can connect with on a weekly or biweekly basis who can help motivate you. Surrounding yourself amongst such business leaders will help you keep positive expectations of your small business internet marketing efforts.
Another way to train yourself to expect success is to feed your mind with positive self help books and motivational business books.
There are classics like “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill and books like Jim Stovall’s “Ultimate Productivity.” Anything personal development/self-help related will help you keep your expectations positive.
Now don’t mistake this blog post to recommend thinking positively and expecting to be successful is the way to succeed in your online marketing efforts. By no means. You must expect great things and then ACT.
If you expect to learn the ins and outs of using Facebook for marketing you will have to devote a few 30 minute segments over a few weeks to do that. You must take the action necessary to make that expectation come to fruition.
Reflection Questions:
- What are you expecting from your small business internet marketing efforts?
- What are you expecting of yourself?
- How would your expectations and efforts change if you had a small board of directors i.e. mastermind group helping you change direction and some perceptions?
I’ll leave you with one of my favorite quotes…
Yesterday is a canceled check, and tomorrow is little more than a promissory note. Today is cash. It is real, it is tangible, and you and I have to spend it wisely. – Jim Stovall
Think about how your expectations might be interfering with your results. Take the action necessary today to start expecting big success! Until next week for another dose of small business motivation!
