Your favorite small business motivator is back with some inspiration for time management on Motivation Monday here at Secrets to Web Success.
So, today let’s dispel the myth that there is such a thing as time management. Over the years I’ve found that what most call time management is really self-management.
What do I mean? Well, we all have 24 hours in a day, but what we put in or fill our days with can be managed, rearranged and changed to fit our mission, vision and goals to maximize the use of the finite resource we all have called time.
Time is not renewable, but our energy, focus and attention are.

Let’s assume you are a small business visionary, which I know you are (smile) and you have your mission, vision and goals set. How do we make the best of our action check list? (The action check list is what some would call a “to do list” – I don’t use “to do” just because it’s boring).
To get the best of your action check list, make sure you manage your ENERGY appropriately!
Today I came across a video that explains this very well. The video below has tremendous value for you and the way you think about conducting business and managing your time.
In order to operate your small business at a level where you can perform optimally, you have to go through some growing, stretching and make changes in the way you operate your life, business and go about your marketing. It is those small businesses that implement new strategies and constantly strive to improve that thrive in any economic situation.
Thanks to Andrea Goodsaid, who recommended I stop by her blog at The Gift of Inspiration and check out a recent blog post on a video with Tony Schwartz who gave a speech for @google seminar series last spring.
Schwartz is co author of “The Art of the Deal” with Donald Trump. as well as author of “The Power of Full Engagement: Managing Energy, Not Time, is the Key to High Performance and Personal Renewal.” He began his career in journalism and now does a fair amount of public speaking.
While watching the video I had a few light bulb moments, and thought it would be a valuable gift to share with you too.
My take-away was that the highest source of energy and focus is the energy of the human spirit – being in true alignment with what you say and how you actually live (in business sense being in alignment with your values and how you serve your clients).
It’s when you have this true sense of purpose that it is super easy to concentrate on and rearange your action list in a way that will put you in the high performance zone quadrant, Schwartz refers to in the video.
There is a cool test about 20 minutes into the video that determines what energy level you are running at. I was about a 30%.
This video is an hour long, but an hour WELL worth invested in yourself and your business.
Respond with your “take away” I’ll give you 30 minutes of my time FREE (valued at least $150) to help you refocus on some of your marketing efforts.
I appreciate you!
