How to Remove the New Annoying Stalker Close Friends Facebook Notifications

Around the last week of May 2012, you might have noticed Facebook launch the “Close Friends” list.   And now you’ve been annoyed by those excessive Close Friend Facebook Notifications after having chosen your “Close Friends.”  How do you get rid of them?  Glad you asked.

Yet another thing Facebook has done to tick us off.  I don’t normally complain, but it seems as though Facebook finds it hard to get things right from a user perspective.  There is no surprise why I prefer using Google+.

Here are the Steps I took to reduce the stalker-ish notifications on everything my close friends are posting on Facebook:

After implementing the following steps my notifications look near the same as they were before I set my close friends.

  •  The first thing I did was:  Go to the “Account Settings” and then “Notifications” link as shown below.
Facebook Account Settings

Facebook Notifications

  • Under Notifications, down the middle of the page, click on the “Facebook” edit link.Edit Facebook Notifications

  •  In that list you will see an option to uncheck “Posts content (Close Friends list only).”  Uncheck that setting.  Then click “Save Changes.”

  • You would think that would suffice… But no. There is one more thing to do. In this same “All Notifications” list, go to “Other Updates from Facebook” and click “edit.”

Other Updates from Facebook

  • Next uncheck the boxes “Updates about your friends since you logged in” and “Updates about your friends since you logged in via SMS” as you see below.

That should do most of it. I still found one or two close friends list notifications making it’s way in, but I am waiting another few hours to see if that fully takes care of the annoying updates.

To Turn Notifications from Close Friends Off Completely

Update:  There is also a way to turn the notifications off completely by going to the left hand navigation once you are logged in. You need to be in the “Home” view and then click on “Close Friends.”

Next check towards the top right of that screen, go to “Notifications” and check  “Off.”

  1. I have just started using Facebook recently…and I find it difficult to work out. I have also started using Google+ and your G+ feed in the sidebar, looks really good! I might have to look into that too.

    Hi Jennifer,
Thank you for the compliment. Facebook is super busy, and Google+ is a lot more user friendly. Just started following you. Look forward to connecting.

    Hi Dali
Great article, but actually I don’t really mind about the notifications. I just want to know how do we know that someone has added us to his close friends list? And how we hide our activities in facebook (our comments & likes on other friends status) from him?
    Thank you :)

    Hi Noor,
Thank you for stopping by and commenting. I need to look into that. I also would like to know who has added me on their close friends list. I’ll see what I can find. :)
