2 Keywords Optimization Tools You Must Have

Keywords Optimization Tools

Keywords Optimization Tools

Keywords are the lifeblood of getting found online.  Knowing how to land on the first page of the major search engines for certain keywords is what all businesses strive for because of one simple equation:

Web Visibility = Traffic = Clients

Before you can SEO or search engine optimize your blog or website you must know the keywords that your potential clients will be typing to find you, your products and services.  AKA It all starts with keyword research and keywords optimization.

There are plenty of free and paid tools that will allow you to find the keywords that your potential customer/target audience is searching for across the search engines.  While this is beyond the scope of this article, you can find information on conducting keyword research here at Secrets to Web Success (Google Adwords free keyword tool in particular or simply type something in the search field on the top right).

This post will focus on keywords optimization – how to find the best possible keywords for your web content. There are many tools on the web that will help you optimize your choice of keywords and help you learn the ins and outs of Keyword and search engine optimization to ensure your content gets maximum visibility in the search engines.  Let’s talk about 2 cool ones. Did I mention they are free?  Thank God for Mozilla Firefox!

Keywords Optimization Tool #1: The Firefox KGen Add on

KGen (or keyword generator) is a good tool if you are not so sure about your keywords or the keyword research process or if you are going back to older blog posts or web content that perhaps do not have a keywords focus.   By the way…this tool should in no way take the place of conducting proper keyword research.  It doesn’t matter what words you focus on if those words are not the ones that your potential clients are typing into the search engines to find you with.

With that in mind, the KGen Firefox Addon will provide an analysis of the keywords on your blog post or website to help you select the keywords/keyword phrases you could attempt to rank for.

Not only can you scan your sites with this Firefox addon, you can scan also other sites (and your competition) to give you an idea of the keywords they use.  Scoping your competition is a good way to go about your keywords optimization.  In particular, KGen provides quite a bit of information on the weight of the keywords in the content.

Below is a snapshot of the KGen Add on in action:

KGen Firefox Addon

The above snapshot analyzes the URL www.wallcreationsbyjanese.com, a local custom home painting business in my neighborhood.  As you can see in the snapshot, the keyword generator tool gives the keyword a weight and organizes the terms by the amount of times it has been repeated in the body of the page (in this case the home page).  This snapshot was taken after I clicked on the “Scan it!” button at the bottom of the screen you see above.

The most repeated words are “home,” “wall” and “creations,” 2/3 words of which are the name of the business (something you don’t want to focus on with keyword optimization – you should focus on the keywords describing the service you provide, as this is what your potential customers will type in the search engines to find you).  So there is one limitation from using this.  However, you do get an idea of the keywords you can select for your content.   In this case, a good choice might be “Custom Paint Jobs in Fredericksburg, VA” (long tail) and possibly a good fit for the website’s Title.

As a side note, KGen tool is good keyword optimization tool for the beginner small business owner who is just learning SEO.   There is also a nice “Tags” tab that will show you the weight each of the tags on your blog or website have in terms of SEO.  You should place your main keyword within these tags, as deemed appropriate.  A snapshot of the tab feature is below:

As you can see the “title” tag weigh’s a number “12″ because it is the most important place your keyword phrase should be if you are going to optimize your web content.

Keywords Optimization Tool #2:  Sen SEO for Firefox

The Sen SEO Addon, also by Firefox, as I blogged about a few times on this blog, is not only a great tool to learn how to optimize your content for the “on page SEO” factors (all those factors you can control and optimize yourself on the fly).  It also now will suggest related keywords for your website or blog pages or posts.  It is a feature that was added with the latest update to the plugin (SenSEO 1.1).

After you install the Sen SEO plugin, and refresh Firfox, you will notice an icon that resembles a little man or magnifying glass at the bottom right of the browser.  Click on the icon and insert your primary keyword phrase where it says “keywords”.  Not only will it fetch you your on page SEO score, it will give you related keywords that you may also want to use in your post or use for additional content you can link to from relevant posts/pages.

A snapshot of the Sen SEO Plugin is below:

Sen SEO Firefox Related Keywords

Using the same example for the custom painting and decoration business above, we see that if we check on the on page score for “home decorations” we see related keywords right below the gray bar followed by a more detailed analysis of the on page SEO score for this page.

Both these Mozilla addons provide you with free ways to improve keywords optimization and improve your search engine optimization efforts for your small business.  They are worth their weight in gold!
