SEO: More Inbound Links

In previous posts about search engine optimization, we discussed the importance of inbound links and how to get them using a feature of your blog called Trackbacks.

Today, I want to discuss another option we have briefly discussed, but didn’t go into a lot of detail on… Blog Commenting.

If you are building your blog correctly, and adding value to the *market* as well, you are writing posts that your target market might be interested in, even if they haven’t found your blog yet. So, how can you address those potential blog readers before they find you? Blog Comments on other people’s blogs.

There are several advantages to doing this, not the least of which is getting more eyeballs on your content, establishing credibility with your target market before they find your blog and naturally, getting Inbound links.

5 Steps To Getting Inbound Links Today

1. Do a Google blog search for bloggers and blogs that are already talking to your target market.
2. Build a list of 5-10 with good page rank and a lot of readers. (Be sure to bookmark them)
3. Read their content and match content you have produced to content on their blog.
4. Leave well thought out comments that add to the conversation and link back to your related content.
5. Rinse and repeat.

Simple right?

You won’t see a flood of new visitors overnight, but if you get into the habit of doing this every day or a couple of times a week, in a short period of time, you will have generated Inbound links to your blog to related content and built a little bit of credibility with your new readers before they get to your blog.

I have heard it said (here on this blog in fact), that those types of Inbound links don’t always count for much because a lot of blog owners add the *nofollow* tag to outbound commented links. And yes, this is true for a lot of blogs. The trick is finding blogs who leave that follow tag alone. (Please note, even if they don’t pass your link with the *nofollow* tag removed, you are still talking to your target market)

I put a tool online at my blog that allows you to Find Blogs That Pass Page-Rank, based on a keyword search. I normally only provide access to this tool to my blogging students, but since I am my own boss (yeah Internet Marketing!), I can do what I want, right?

Remember, get into the habit of reading other blogs already talking to your target market. Pretty soon, that trickle of traffic will become a stream. Stay with it, and that stream will become a brook. Build momentum and expand your list of blogs you comment on, and that brook will become a river of new visitors.
