4 Ways to Become a Blog Psychic and Always Know What to Blog About

There are several tools to help you know what to blog about.  But before I go into them let me reiterate that the key to becoming an awesome blogger is to  exude passion, know your goals, and deliver excellent content to your target audience.   You must know who your ideal client is and what solutions they are looking for.  Conducting appropriate keyword research is one of your first steps.   This post will explore other creative ways to help you build an ever flowing supply of blog content for your potential clients.

So What to Blog About Next?  Here are Some things that will help!

1) Take a Frequent Look at Your Blog Metrics

Although you might find it boring, taking a look at numbers will get you excited when you hear them speaking to you.  Soon enough that little psychic voice will get you excited to blog.  Your blog’s metrics will tell you a lot about your visitors, especially what solutions they are looking for you to provide.

Here is a personal blog success experience to demonstrate the importance of paying attention to your blog metrics:

Some time ago I began a series on the Feedly RSS Viewer and its ability to keep you productive and profitable in your quest for web success.   I received some love over on the Feedly blog and started getting a significant amount of traffic to that one blog post from Feedly as well as from Google.

Because my readers were consuming that content, I decided to create a blog series on Feedly.  That one little Feedly post presently happens to be my most popular post on this blog.  In fact, not to toot my horn (but yours) I have multiple page one results for if you conduct a Google search for the feedly rss viewer because of my use of social media around this blog series (I have results on Friendfeed, YouTube, My Blog Log, other bloggers linking to me, and my own original post).

When I realized I was getting significant traffic from several sources, I decided to capitalize and provide more content for my readers and visitors looking to make a productive experience with the Feedly RSS reader.   Plus, I am a huge believer that if you are really going to use social media in your business you must know how to use, share, and interact with your followers with RSS.

Today, that series continues to bring steady traffic to this blog.  Had I not paid attention to my metrics I would have missed an opportunity to give my readers (you) exactly what they were looking for.

See how metrics rock and make you the instant blog psychic?  I recommend you check your metrics weekly.

I also personally like Woopra, FireStats, WordPress Stats, Feedburner, and Google Analytics (to name only a few).

2) Where are Your Fans Sharing Your Blog Content?   This Will Give You a Clue on What to Blog About.

Now that you’ve taken a close look at your metrics for traffic, also take note of where your readers and followers are sharing your content, and engage them in dialogue.   It can be as simple as logging into Feedburner and or accessing your Woopra metrics from the WordPress dashboard and getting more details about your readers.  Where are most of them accessing your blog?  If most of your social media readers are coming from Twitter or FriendFeed, make it a point to be active in those communities and engage individuals in conversation. When you make yourself visible and engage in a conversation your readers will be more open to ask you questions.  And even if they don’t ask you, you now know where to form a group on one of these social networks to gather more information from your followers for potential topics to blog about.  Social media just rocks.

But make sure about one thing – conduct the keyword research before beginning a blog post or blog series and make a decision from there.

3) Take a Look at Some Handy Dandy WordPress Plugins to Help you Blog

The Psychic Search wordpress plugin is a neat tool that will keep track of all the searches your readers enter in your blog’s search bar.   If you are seeing several searches come up and you have slim pickings in that area, then you have some more ideas on what to blog about.   This plugin also keeps track of the searches being conducted on search engines from the last 24 hours, 7 days and 30 days.  You can get excellent ideas for content here.

The WordPress Stats plugin will tell you some important stats right on your dashboard.  Some include what the current top posts are and what the most recently viewed in order of popularity are.  Once you know what your top posts are you can decide what next topic you can convert into a blog series.

4) Ask Your Readers What they Want  You to Blog About

Ask directly on your blog.

Ask in your email marketing campaigns.

When you ask you’ll receive great ideas for blog posts.  It may seem simple, but most bloggers forget they can just ask their readers directly.

In no time you will become that blogging psychic you’ve always dreamed of becoming.

What other creative ideas have you come across to give your readers what they are looking for?

What questions do you have about metrics or blogging that we can assist you with?

I appreciate you.
