As much as we love SEO here at Secrets to Web Success, Google is not the only place you want to focus your attention on to make progress in your online social marketing.  As SEO algorithms evolve, they are incorporating more social marketing criteria. This means that getting social to achieve web success is only going to get more important as the social web evolves.
Avoiding Online Social Marketing Productivity Loss on Facebook
With robust social media tools such as Facebook and Twitter evolving and allowing third party applications that make:
- Video streaming on Twitter (via TwitCam) possible
- Plugins like Facebook Connect that allow your readers to comment with their Facebook profile carrying your blog conversation over to Facebook for their friends to see and your message to potentially go viral
You can get a little lost at times, and there is no denying that the web continues to get more and more social by the second.
However, just when you feel overwhelmed there is a 9/10 chance that you will find a plugin, add on, or widget that will simplify your social marketing experience. I’ve found it in the Mozilla Firefox Facebook Toolbar.
Mozilla Firefox Facebook Toolbar
This toolbar is an add on for the Mozilla Firefox browser. Newcomers and seasoned networkers on Facebook will enjoy the ease at which you can make connections through this nifty toolbar.
You can access:
- friend requests
- your Facebook inbox
- notes
- links
- events
- videos and more without having to navigate the Facebook site.
It is a great time saver and will simplify your use of Facebook if you think logging into and navigating the site can be a bit confusing.
With the Facebook Toolbar you can also search for specific friends by name in a Facebook search bar, and the results will quickly pop up.
There is a feature that will allow you to enable or disable pop up notifications that show you when your friends have updated their status. If you are going to enable this setting, set a time limit to it so that you don’t get too distracted.
You can control many of the options such as whether or not you want the toolbar to notify you when someone writes on your wall or when your friend writes a note.
I’d recommend keeping the settings to minimum interruption (except for when someone writes on your wall or sends you a new message). If you have set 30 minutes to leave the toolbar on and reply to the wall message you will seem like you’re all over it.
Additionally, you can go to approve new friends from the toolbar. It will direct you to your friend request page at that point.
You can also access a “facebook sidebar” that will list your friends’ status updates. I believe only the friends that have the toolbar will be listed here.
Those are most of the highlights for this very useful time saving tool for Facebook. Go get the Facebook toolbar and see for yourself! Then tell us what you think about the toolbar!
Whether you’ve been on Facebook for sometime or are just getting your feet wet, the Facebook toolbar will leverage your time and avoid making Facebook a productivity loss.
