Browsing the Twitter Page Like You Mean It

Anyone who’s known me for any length of time (in my Internet / Computer Savvy persona), knows that I love add-on’s that extend the abilities of my existing tools. Take Firefox for example. Great browser. Faster than Internet Explorer (sorry Bill Gates), and more secure. Firefox is a blogger or web developers dream come true.

There are add-on’s that show you SEO traffic numbers or Google page rank. Little nuggets that let you peek into a websites (any website) HTML, CSS or form elements. Another will let you view the keywords that sponsored ad’s on the Google network are bidding on. And one to do a *WhoIs* on any site you come across (for those potential JV or linking partner’s contact info).

And, if you love Twitter like I do (who doesn’t?),  there is a Twitter add on that extends the basic Twitter page.

Extends? Try makes Twitter come alive.

The add-on is called Power Twitter, and it does some really cool things for you. For instance, it can automatically display videos that are linked from your Twitter time line or  automaticallyshow the photos that your followers post.

These are the settings that Power Twitter let’s you update. Want a feature, tick the box. Want to turn one off? Untick the box. It’s really simple to use and simple to install. And because it’s a Firefox add-on, it’s *always on*, you don’t have to do a thing after you set it up.

Install Power Twitter

Head on over to the Add-On headquarters for Firefox or directly to the Power Twitter link and click the Add To FireFox button.

Restart your browser.

Set It Up One Time

In the lower right corner of your browser window will be a new little icon. Simply click the settings link and tick off the boxes for the options you want.

Click the Save\Update option.

Enjoy The New Features

Now, sit back and enjoy the new interactive and visually appealing version of Twitter, every time you are on your Twitter page.  Features like a little popup that gives you a glimpse into the posting habits of a follower on a friends page provide a great way for you to see if they are someone you really want to follow).

If you use Twitter in your browser (rather than a tool like TweetDeck or Twhirl), then you really need to check out Power Twitter in the FireFox browser.

Recap Of Features

Power Twitter adds features to the Twitter Web interface including:

  • Search and recent searches
  • Search scoped to a specific user
