There are two of several Secrets to Web Success that you’ll never hear anywhere else. They are secrets because they have nothing to do with a small business owner’s Internet marketing strategy – on the surface at least.
Wondering what they are?
The 2 Unspoken Secrets to Web Success are…
- Adding some spirituality to your marketing mix
- Shifting your mindset when it comes to making money
“What, Dali?” You ask with your forehead wrinkled and your nose turned up.
What does one have to do with the other, and how is including spirituality and in my Internet marketing strategy going to help me?
I wrote about the topic some time ago when I touched on the concept of the importance of integrating your core business values with your personal values here.
To understand the place spirituality and an enlightend money mindset have in your Internet marketing strategy and your success on the web you have to understand two things:
- What you truly feel about money and success can hinder or help you in your small business
- Faith is what helps you stay the course when you don’t see big results immediately and (most of us lose faith or disregard this as a critical component in marketing)
So, What do you Truly Feel About Money?
When it comes to increasing your bottom line, it’s not just about investing in yourself and in your business, you have to assess how you feel about money.
If you’ve ever read the book “Secrets of the Millionaire Mind” by T.Harv Eker you will know where I’m headed.
We all have feelings associated with making money (most often they are bad). Some of us have challenges keeping money or the ability to manage it. When we make financial decisions for instance whether or not to:
- invest in a course
- increase your SEO budget
- or invest in a coach
The feelings we have about investing/spending money will surface in our subconscious. We then begin to rationalize when we make our financial decisions based on previous experiences. Usually those feelings around money will either deter or accelerate our success in any area, including your success on the web.
In fact, what you’ve learned about money management, investing, budgeting, etc. from your early childhood environment affects you in your small business today.
I can remember watching my mother pay her Fingerhut bill the minute she received her statement in order to avoid interest charges. I modeled after that once I started using credit as an adult. On the other hand, I also remember hearing my parents say things like:
- “The rich get richer and the poor get poorer” and
- “Money doesn’t grow on trees”
Consequently, I used to feel I had to work extremely hard to make decent money. I am sure you can relate. Those experiences have shaped my ability to manage and increase my income.
Hey it would be interesting to hear what money sayings you were accustomed to hearing as a child (comment below).
Now, I’m not saying having a healthy money mindset is the only thing that will help you achieve the success you desire on the web. That would be silly. And honestly, there are skills we are teaching you here on SEO, blogging, social media that will accelerate your learning curve. However, your mindset, especially when it comes to the associations you place on money, does play a significant role in your long term success in any endeavor.
Let’s give an example:
If you believe it will be hard to bring in $5,000 in additional business revenue per month, chances are it will.
If you feel that having more money will make you feel guilty because most of your peers, or other local business owners you connect with, are not doing as well as you, well you might not hit your additional $5,000 goal.
Sometimes we rationalize and self sabotage our success. I know I used to constantly do it (and occasionally find myself limiting myself). I devoted 47 pages to write about this in my e-book Mindset Marketing.
What About Spirituality and Web Success, Dali?
How does having a healthy “money mindset” work with spirituality? If you want to get into the spirituality of money and wealth, you must read The Freedom Formula by Christine Kloser. This takes the former book by T.Harv Eker up a spiritual level.
When you are facing challenges in your marketing you’ll be surprised how one small tweak to your blog, one word in your email subject line, or one change in your web copy’s headline will work wonders. However, most marketers focus more on the problem than the possible solutions. Sometimes you simply lack faith or doubt yourself.
We lack faith when we view our problems to be bigger than possible solutions.
In the Freedom Formula, Kloser discusses that you can lean on your spirituality and a higher power when you are weak. She calls it reconnecting to Source or God.
Whatever your faith is, the crux of the matter is that having faith (whether it is in yourself, your marketing choices, a higher power etc.) is an integral part of the learning, growth, and success process.
Always trusting that you are moving towards your goal (not blindly) and that every experience, mistake, or failure is leading you to your ultimate goal, will keep you motivated and empowered to move forward when times are challenging.
I could go on for a while on this topic, but I’ll recommend you hop on my dear friend Melanie Yost’s “The Spirituality of Wealth TeleSummit” starting Monday, July 20th, 2009.

Hi Dali,
You bring up a great point in how important your spiritual life can play a huge factor in your business…
I must say though, I am tired of a lot of the speakers out there that are telling people to have faith, but not faith in God… Those that are giving credit to a “higher power” or the Universe, but not giving any credit to the Creator of the universe. Kinda weird!
I know not everyone will agree, but that’s my 2 cents…
love ya Dali!
