If you are blogging just for the sake of blogging, then you might not immediately understand the benefit to your Small Business Blog, so allow me to explain.
We all want more traffic. We all want that traffic as free as possible. You with me so far? So, what keywords do the advertisers spend money on? And why would be care?
Advertisers Can Point The Way To Great SEO
Advertisers on the Google Adwords network are spending money every day on keywords that will get them targeted traffic for their offers. They only spend money on profitable keywords. Keywords are only profitable if folks click, read and buy. Folks only click, read and buy if they are interested – if it solves a pain or provides a pleasure.
Therein lies the road to better content on your small business blog.
You can take an idea and run it through the Google Adwords Keyword Suggestion Tool to see what other keywords are *commercially viable*. Which keywords are getting the most *play*. Use them in your blog content, make sure they appear in your title, keyword list and description and viola… you have an SEO Techinque that I can assure you, most business bloggers are not using.
How About An Example To Make It Clearer?
Naturally, the first step, the one I can’t really help you with, is choosing an idea for your next blog post. I have no idea what niche you are in or what your goals are, so I will use a very generic example… Pool Supplies. This example assumes you run a pool supply business and are looking for ideas for your posts, or keywords to use in a blog post you already have the idea for.
Step 1: Google Keyword Suggestion Tool
Visit the Google Adwords Keyword Suggestion Tool and select “Descriptive words or phrases” on the left side, and enter your primary (or root) keyword in the box provided on the right. (See screen shot). Click the Get Keyword Ideas button.

After a few moments, Google will return a lot of ideas, err keywords. Remember our goal here. We want to know the keywords advertisers are bidding on. (Here’s a hint, they will be the higher priced keywords)
Since we want to see the amount it costs to get on the first page of the sponsored results, click on the Chooose Columns to Display drop down and select Estimated Avg CPC. Now, your results should look similar to those shown below.

To sort all the keyword ideas into Avg CPC, click the link at the top titled Estimated Avg CPC. This will sort them in ascending order (lowest first), click again to reverse the sort so the highest priced words appear at the top.
Step 2 : Write With Those Words In Mind
Now, just find the keywords that you can weave into your small business blog posts in a natural way and start posting. Simple, huh?
Insider Trick If You Are Using Adsense On Your Blog
Here’s a little extra bonus for you that will help you earn more from your Adsense (if you elected to put it on your small business blog).
Write your blog posts to include the higher priced keywords, and then buy your own clicks for the lower priced keywords. This sends inexpensive traffic to your blog, where the higher priced ad’s will be displayed. This technique is called Traffic Arbitrage. Buy low, sell high.

As you can see from above, for that same keyword we entered above, there is still enough traffic (the search volume) to make this work for you.
