Blogging for Your Business: Why Use WordPress?

I continue to hear stories on Facebook about how many small business owners in my local area in Fredericksburg and Stafford, Virginia are taking their content and transferring it to WordPress (the self-hosted version on wordress.org). This isn’t just a local phenomenon, by the way.  WordPress is making the lives of webmasters and business owners a lot easier!

When it comes to blogging for your business, however, not every business owner realizes the value and power of WordPress, especially for the purposes of online marketing.   As a result, I started a thread via Facebook Notes and asked my WordPress blog loving friends:

Why Is WordPress So Valuable In Your Online Marketing?

I have one SEO friend, Levi Wardell, who speculates WordPress could be purchased by the major search players by 2012 (i.e. Google).  Now, if an Search Engien Optimizer speculates that, then you know WordPress has some mystical business blogging super powers!

There is no doubt that the search engines love WordPress, and blogs that are frequently updated, in general.  In layman’s terms, this means WordPress makes the process of optimizing your content to appear on the first page of Google, Yahoo, and Bing, a lot easier than if you were to attempt to figure it out on your own site.

There are many plugins to help you optimize your content for maximum web visibility (The All In One SEO Pack, Headspace 2, SEO Title Tag etc). And that is just the tip of the iceberg.

There are many other reasons, besides increased search engine visibility and traffic, that you should consider using WordPress if you’re blogging for your business.  As a result, I am writing  This WordPress Blog Post Series to outline the top advantages of moving your current content from a static site to the WordPress Blogging Platform (and simply starting a WordPress blog and blogging for business use).

Why Use WordPress as the Platform If you’re Blogging for Your Business

Let’s begin with:

Reason to Go WordPress:  The freedom from being tied to a web designer to create and post your own work on your website.

Thanks to S.Yvonne Harper on Facebook for this one.

How often do you normally have to wait to publish updates to your business site with your webmaster?

Every sensible coach, entrepreneur or business owner now realizes that updating content is as easy as updating a word document!

The WordPress publishing area is just like a word processor, so you don’t have to know a lick of code in order to publish.  Also, publishing is in real time.  Long gone are the days of  tedious back and forth communication with a webmaster to get your site updated.  Simply log in to your WordPress dashboard, click on the page you want to edit, or blog post you wish to update, and you instantly can update your site at the click of the “update” or “publish” button.

You can Post Timely Updates on Your WordPress Business Blog Such As:

  1. Time-sensitive events you may be hosting offline or online
  2. Special Promotions and Offers you may be running that require customers knowing when they can shop at a disounted rate
  3. Updates on the milestones you’ve reached in your business (thanking your client base for their integral part in building your business – while also offering them a freebie for it)
  4. Post  Valuable Information about your industry that will allow you to remain in your customer’s thoughts and remember to call you when they need your services
  5. Posts about your personal life as it relates to your business (or not) so that your clients or prospect see the human side of you so that you may build credibility and trust
  6. Easily Post links to your social media spots (without bugging your webmaster to create those icons or wait forever to get it done).  Plugins such as “Social Homes” come in super handy for this!

As you can see, there are many significant benefits to using WordPress to blog for your business and continue to solify and build relationships with your client base or prospects.

In the next couple of blog posts you will learn even more about WordPress and why many business owners continue to use WordPress to host their sites and blogs.  Make sure to feed your web marketing appetite by getting your free updates via RSS or email (to the right).
